Using the qualitative research method, Grounded Theory, the project collected data through individual interviews with eight staff physicians, six house staff, and seven nurses. All interviewees acknowledged that overtreatment of dying patients makes working in an Intensive Care Unit difficult. House staff acknowledged feelings of failure at the death of their patients. Staff physicians acknowledged that it is easier to continue treating than to make a decision to stop, thus avoiding difficult conversations or ethical decisions. The project is based in a local church community; it is focused on Scripture and on a sacramental and faith understanding of married life; it provides opportunity to practice communication skills through six meetings with 'homework' between meetings; it uses a marriage counselor to train and guide leader couples as a referral resource; it emphasizes peer couple-to-couple ministry based on lived experience in marriage. The six group sessions treat respect for relationship, confidentiality, and group process; needs of women and men; communication skills; stress and its response in men and womwen; sharing and coordinating values; and intimacy and spirituality. In the context of religious adherence among Costa Rica's 1994 adult population, the project analyzes Protestant desertion rates for 1989, 1991, and 1994.  The projects offers reasons why former Protesants have deserted Protestant churches in Costa Rica. These reasons are related to differences observed in the three church categories used for this study (that is, churches distinguished by higher and lower attrition rates and by more mobility); in the areas of evangelism (message and method) and discipleship (including church discipline and congregational life). Questions were posed to discern if the prayer was meaningful and why (or why not) it was deemed so.  Responses to these questions are studied in light of relevant theological and pastoral care literature.  Entries from a journal written during a time of crisis are reviewed for ways in which prayer might have been voiced to meet spiritual needs. They completed personal and professional history questionnaires and were interviewed about their responses to infant death.  This project interprets the results from the viewpoint of Personal Construct Theory to develop a template--that is, a framework of questions that a pastoral caregiver may use when giving pastoral care to nurses dealing with infant death.  Two case studies are included. This project supposes that hell is an important topic to address from the pulpit.  The project does not address the question of who is going to hell.  Rather, it focuses on the question, What is hell?  Relevant biblical passages are considered, followed by three basic interpretations of the biblical material: hell as eternal, conscious punishment; hell as ultimate restoration (universal salvation); and hell as ultimate destruction (conditional immortality). The project presents an overview of the history of hell in preaching and a discussion of homiletical method, along with a deductive and inductive sermon on the topic. The research method is based on questionnaires and on the analysis of all relevant literature.  The mutual incomprehension leads to tensions in interpersonal relationships, which almost collapse the evangelization.  The results of the analysis allow an adjoining and a clarification of misconceptions.  This clearly defines lines of mutual action to be taken. It exposes and addresses the relationship between themes, issues and problems of the congregation.  The dissertation presupposes that the factions of the congregation are manifestations of factions in families that make up the membership.  The problems that are unresolved in families show up in interpersonal relationships in the church family.  The biblical narrative model used the favorite stories of a test group of caregivers, such as favorite Bible stories, favorite fairy tales and stories heard from visitations to discover disruptive themes in their personal narratives. The results of this dissertation answer, in part, the search of a pastor for ways to address the pastoral needs of four lay persons as these persons are being trained to give care to other members of the congregation.
