Descriptive survey methodology and simple statistical evaluations were used with an experimental group. A sermon series identifying what constitutes active church membership was presented to the congregation; a pretest-posttest opinionnaire was used to determine its effectiveness.  The author developed a model encourager program which included a membership committee and an eight-session encourager training course.  The effectiveness of the course was measured by the experimental method. Evaluation involved a pretest/posttest questionnaire, critical observation, and several interviews by the author. Two methods of research were employed: the experimental method and the descriptive method. With the combination of these two methodologies, the project was successfully accomplished. Through historical research, a thesis was developed that direct mail and telemarketing were suitable methods for prospect identification.  A program was developed to involve church members in mailing letters and making telephone calls to new homeowners and residents who lived within two miles of the church. Six couples participated in an eight-week training program at First Baptist Church, Clarksville, Tennessee.  At the conclusion of the training, the results were tested by statistical standards and other methods. The objective was accomplished by researching the biblical basis and the best methods of intercessory prayer.  That research was condensed into a series preached to the congregation and another series taught to an experimental class.  A significant increase in the practice of intercessory prayer was noted in both the congregation and the class. The author developed a curriculum for the Bible studies, surveyed the area for the best locations, trained leaders, registered the participants and began an eight-week program in individual homes.  Each week preceding the study, the author met with the leaders to present the next study and discuss the previous week's study.  At the end of the eighth weekly session, the ultimate goal was to continue the two Bible studies and establish one additional study in the Boutte area.
