This project tests the premise that an exploration of this tradition will enable laity to witness to their faith.  A small study group of African-American Christians followed a curriculum based on Thomas R Groome's shared praxis model of Christian education, involving interaction with and response to Christian witness.  The study allowed participants to: examine the content of the church's evangelistic witness; explore the experiences of slavery and freedom which have shaped the way African Americans relate the Christian story; and identify prospective means of evangelism in which laity could become active. The first group designed and implemented a one-day voter registration drive in South Oak Cliff, registering 55 persons in Dallas County.
