This project uses the focused interview to identify transitional difficulties and the availability of assistance in these categories: theological, personal, economic, familial and relocation.  It draws conclusions, with correlative implications, from these interviews.  Southern Baptist ministers, generally, are not adversely affected by ministry in the military.  They usually return successfully to ministry within their denomination. With this thesis Ronald H Sunderland provides a simple format for equipping the laity for pastoral ministry.  This project evaluates and tests Sunderland's program in the setting of a US Army community chapel overseas.  A careful examination of the biblical basis for lay ministry is highlighted by literature in the field.  The transient military congregation and the specifics of how the Sunderland model is adopted to it are discussed. Implications for chaplain usage are considered through three questionnaires. The ministers active in the Evangelical United Brethren Church prior to merger still feel much resentment and frustration fourteen years after the 1968 merger with the Methodist Church. It surveys literature covering an historical range from early to very recent studies on the theology and history of worship and sacramental practice.  The project studies three Pentecost services and their levels of worship experimentation by using an evaluative questionnaire.  These demonstrate that while people want traditional worship events, they experience worship within non-traditional worship approaches. The thesis of this project is that these principles can be applied to the lay pastoral care of an individual congregation and thus can provide a place to support both dying persons and their families.  The project develops a prototype program and curriculum which provides training in medical, emotional and spiritual care, as well as counselor training.  The curriculum was tested over an eight month period among eighty-one persons from thirteen congregations in Fresno, California.
