Chapter 2 examined the biblical and theological issues surrounding evangelistic intercession. The life and ministry of Charles Finney was presented in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 provided a detailed account of the implementation of the evangelistic intercessory prayer strategy. Chapter 1 introduces the goals for the project and the context of the church in which the project was implemented.  Chapter 2 establishes the biblical and theological foundation for the project.  Chapter 3 examines intercessory prayer in light of the history of revivals and awakenings.  Chapter 4 describes the project's methodology and the teaching sessions of the seminar, which was conducted in the church.  Chapter 5 provides an evaluation of the project and its effectiveness in the church. More specifically, this dissertation reveals the need for a contextual model for the development of effective prayer and outreach in the new church. The author conducted a thorough examination of literary sources in the area of new church development. Current church growth research was also studied. In addition, the author drew upon effective, contextual models developed and implemented in pastoral ministry. The project provides analysis of the relationship between prayer, faith and the sovereignty of God and the goal of prayer. The project used preaching, small groups and prayer journals as project methods. Toward this end five separate strategies were utilized: an eight-week prayer course for volunteers; three sermons; a restructuring of the Sunday morning worship service to include a stronger emphasis on the pastoral prayer; a restructuring of the Wednesday night prayer service to encourage mutual congregational intercession; and the initiation of a continuing prayer ministry in the church. It involved eight weekly sessions of instruction followed by five weeks devoted to the sharing of prayer.  Chapter 4 described the research process.  The study group, control group, research design, hypothesis, variables, and evaluative components were discussed. Chapter 5 involved an evaluation of the program. Chapter 1 defines the subject of prayer and proves that the Bible is not only an infallible divine revelation of God's plan of redemption, but also a record of the invaluable inspirational prayers of Jesus Christ. Chapter 2 begins with the birth of the Sudan Interior Mission and substantiates its mission emphasis by prayer in West Africa. Chapter 3 examines hindrances to prevailing prayers and the Nigerian Evangelical Church of West Africa involvement with charismatic movement. Chapter 4 addresses the importance of prayer in mission and biblical imperatives of praying for mission. Prayer strategies for rapid exponential increase of church planting are also included.
