Utilizing cinematherapy in a Christian counseling setting may further the expression of feelings, beliefs, worldviews, and values by tapping into the narrative medium of popular culture which is familiar and non-threatening to children. Cinematherapy as a therapeutic intervention introduces another level of viewing that focuses on identification and connection with characters in the movie. Movies viewed with an intentional focus as assigned or prescribed in cinematherapy invite reflection, comparison, and analysis that can promote theological formation and psychological development. The power of narrative to shape and influence individuals is demonstrated through reviews of narrative theology and narrative therapy. Narrative serves as the connection between these fields and the newer concept of cinematherapy. Salient issues related to the purpose and meaning of Ecclesiastes are discussed with special attention directed to the project's curriculum, Ecclesiastes 2:1-11. A justification for Solomonic authorship is presented as well. Chapter 3 explores expository preaching in the context of postmodernism. This chapter defines 'postmodernism' and traces the development of hermeneutics as the foundation of postmodern thought. It also examines the rationale for employing expository preaching as both antithesis and antidote for postmodernity. Chapters 4 and 5 present the specific elements of the ministry project. Emphasis is given to the alarming failure rate of newly planted MBA congregations during the study period. Chapter 1 defines the problem. Attention is given to statistical information and an overview of the presuppositions governing the association's church planting program during the study period. Additionally, the project's thesis is put forth. Chapter 2 provides historical context by reviewing the emergence of the Massachusetts Baptist Association. Additionally, the comparative histories of two MBA church plants are included. The first illustrates the association's previous church planting mindset; the second demonstrates the 'missions' mindset advocated by this work. Chapter 3 is an analysis of Kennon Callahan's thinking relative to missions and the church planting task. Attention is given to the implications of Callahan's assertions that we live in 'the day of mission,' and that North America must be viewed as a mission field comparable to any other world mission field. Chapter 4 addresses the justification for and construction of a new church planting philosophy and hermeneutic for the MBA. Emphasis is placed on the value and necessity of each to inform future church planting in the association. Chapter 5 is a record of the analytical process and implementation of the new philosophy and hermeneutic. How these statements impacted a specific church plant, the church planter, and the association are reviewed in detail. This work contends that Massachusetts is a mission field not unlike any other world mission field. Further, it asserts that the previous failure rate of newly planted churches was due in no small part to the lack of 'mission' thinking in the planting process. Finally, this work argues that correction of the problem requires that church planting in the MBA be interpreted as missions, and implemented from a missiological perspective."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["55f1694e-f3f1-43ea-8ca9-da9a2899defe"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128784913563648,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:05:19.548Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:41:42Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:19:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fa935cc3-175f-4391-bb16-d6603d0b81ab","accessControl_ssim":["d166da08-6c15-4495-850c-43ce2e4766ed"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A consultant's strategy for team development within the local church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:41:41Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:17:28Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["989b94b9-5be5-46e5-bed3-ff81a94d7575"],"hasLease_ssim":["992e1540-ac6d-4884-87d7-6f37d17ef8d9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Charles E Lawless"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"location_tesim":["South Carolina--Lancaster"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Johnnie Dale Roach"],"publisher_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church consultation","Church group work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Chapter 1 defines the purpose and goals of the church growth consultant.
