The project leader will enlist a cross-section of church members for interviews. One of the major needs that must be addressed in the Christian community and in the local church is the mentoring of Christian men in family leadership. Even when men lead at work, in the community and other places, often they do not effectively lead at home.  A partial remedy for this need is to place these men into accountability groups.  One such group will be formed with five men who desire to develop their spiritual leadership skills.  The purpose of the twelve sixty-minute sessions is for the men to grow in their spiritual leadership ability.  A part of the information for each session will be submitted by thirty or more spiritually mature Christian men who will comment on the kind  of spiritual leadership they practice in their families. It is hoped that the principles that are taught to the men will be caught by the spirit of the project leader and the other men involved in the advisory group. Due to the rapid population increase in the city of Keller and the growth in membership of Mount Gilead Baptist Church, most people are unaware of the exciting history of the church and its role in the community.  After the history of the church has been carefully constructed, a thirteen-session seminar will build a change in attitude toward the history of the church in a control group of five to eight participants.  Their knowledge of the history of the church will be evaluated through tests given at the beginning and end of the seminar.  The seminar will hopefully serve as the foundation for three new teams.  An historical committee must be established to maintain historical records. Another committee will be formed from this control group to organize the sesquicentennial celebration of Mount Gilead Baptist Church in July of 2000. The main reason is that there are very few pastors and no lay Christians trained to provide such care. The goal of this project was to train laity through practical, experiential, and clinical methods to engage in effective hospital visitation. This goal was achieved by training laity to provide pastoral care for hospital patients. The author planned for participants to attend eight sessions totaling sixteen hours of training. In these meetings they received instruction and participated in group activities. The first six sessions focussed on a basic understanding of pastoral care, the nature of hospitalization, the personal identity as a pastoral caregiver, the guidelines for the hospital visit, a model of pastoral conversation, and writing and presenting a verbatim report. The participants made five hospital visits after the sixth session. A questionnaire that assesses the discipleship profile of individual church members will be used to determine the causes for membership dropout.  Based on the findings of the survey, a pilot discipleship program will be designed and introduced to churches in the Baptist Union that focuses on specific techniques to improve membership assimilation and retention.  Eight churches representative of those found in the Baptist Union will be selected by the project coordinator working with a committee selected by the leadership of the Baptist Union of Uganda.  From these churches, members will be randomly chosen to participate in the questionnaire. Data from the questionnaires will be collected, tabulated, and analyzed to ascertain the characteristics of each church according to the following criteria:  attitudes, conduct/behavior, relationships to God and people, ministry involvement, and beliefs. The study has been especially selected to help pastors/leaders in growing churches and also in counterbalancing an increasingly strong charismatic influence in the Baptist congregations in the Penang area.  This project will be conducted during a time frame of thirty-two hours of seminary-class training for the students of Penang Baptist Seminary and any leaders of Penang-area Baptist congregations who desire to enroll in the class.  The thirty-two hours of class time will be delivered during a two-week period consisting of four hours a day, Tuesday through Friday of each week.  The goals are that not only will the leaders become trained but that they will return to their respective congregations and lead similar classes/seminars. The lay members of the churches, therefore, will be more knowledgeable about these biblical teachings and less vulnerable to false teachings. From athletic endurance on a football field to intense concentration in a chess match, to Olympic figure skating, people are drawn to a contest.  The Apostle Paul understood this human tendency when he used the theme of running a race in I Cor. 9:24-27 to exhort the Corinthian believers to Christian excellence.  The purpose of this project is to create a motivating and challenging approach to discipleship at Evangel Temple Assembly of God in Grand Prairie, Texas.  It will involve teaching seven to twelve people biblical principles of discipleship tailored around Paul's racing metaphor.  The writer hopes that the process will result in a greater interest and participation in active ministry within the local church. The project will consist of ten lessons which will be taught on a weekly basis as a part of the regular Wednesday night program and a concluding session which will incorporate a Sunday evening service allowing participants to minister and testify.  Each lesson will teach an area of discipleship and will include both written and hands-on ministry assignments.  Lessons will also include an evaluative mechanism which will illustrate both cognitive understanding of the material covered in class as well as show increased involvement in functional ministry. The project will be conducted in three phases.  The first phase will include five Sunday morning messages addressing the nature of organizational change in the life of churches, ministry through spiritual gifts, and the development of team ministries.  The messages will discuss ministry structures found in Scripture and the basic operational principles by which they function.  The second phase will focus on five Sunday evening seminars.  The seminars will examine Sunday morning sermons in light of Garden Oaks Baptist Church's committee structure with a view toward developing a structure based on a team-ministry approach. Through interaction and dialogue, seminar participants will evaluate Garden Oaks Baptist Church's committee structure and pursue development of a team-ministry structure based on one's spiritual gifts.  The third phase will be designed to enlist a study team of twelve people from participants of the first and second phases. Many barriers, however, hinder both an effective communication and a proper understanding of the gospel.  The barriers exist both in the cultural back-ground of Western missionaries and the Africans' worldview.  While some missionaries have studied the African worldview, many have not spent enough time learning about their own cultural assumptions.  This project deals specifically with the issues related to the sharing of God's love in Africa.  It deals with the barriers missionaries bring with them as well as those that await on the field.  One basic premise is that the romanticized concept of love missionaries bring is totally different from the utilitarian view of love Africans hold.  Westerners value love for love's sake.  Africans understand and express appreciation in how something or someone has been useful to them. Misunderstanding on this point causes harm in communication and relationships.
