Of these two, the office of elder is the one principally charged with the leadership of local churches.  The identification and selection of said elders is a key challenge that this project seeks to address and facilitate.  The project execution saw the creation and implementation of a workshop in two congregations focused upon the biblical standard of an elder's qualifications, roles and tasks. This has been accomplished by presenting an overview of the historical development of the superintendent's role. Various surveys of pastors and laypersons in the EFCA have also been conducted.  Specific recommendations are then made.  These are viewed from the perspective of various departments of the Free Church nationally, including its seminary.  A second category involves recommended changes regarding the superintendent's role as it impacts the local church.
