Quantitative and qualitative research were used by sending questionnaires to all 409 women married to clergy in the West Virginia Annual Conference and talking to those who feel called. The research showed that women married to clergy are not struggling with the call into pastoral ministry more than others not married to clergy are. This author used surveys and individual interviews with A. M. E. pastors to assess the reassignment process.  The findings indicated that the absence of communication before reassignment had the emotional effect associated with loss, diminishing Itinerant Elder authority in ministry and their role as a partner in the vision for the church. Tools for evaluating personal traits and gifts, discussion with Episcopal or Search Committees, influences of present or previous pastor, staff, lay leadership, worship, Christian education, youth and faith traditions, were created and utilized. Assessment tools were used to measure how a pastor could revaluate and begin to lead change in a congregation during the first year of ministry in the new context. The tools were then evaluated with suggestions for change.
