The problem addressed the tendency of people to observe rather than to participate in ministry due to their lack of knowledge and understanding of spiritual gifts. It developed an equipping ministry launch that consisted of a twelve-week study of spiritual gifts using a preaching series, Sunday school lessons and small-group studies. The launch helped attendees gain knowledge and understanding of spiritual gifts and of their use in ministry. The hypothesis was that a multifaceted revelational homiletic model combining gift awareness and a personal invitation would affect lay activity levels in the local church positively. A spiritual gift inventory, three sermons, and organizational invitations tested this hypothesis. Change was measured quantitatively through a pre/post test and qualitatively through the interview process. The model for ministy consisted of gifts assessments, questionnaires and interviews, and a series of workshops and accompanying sermons.  The project revealed the elders were more motivated by the need to accomplish an assignment than by their area of giftedness. Results indicated that, while leaders respected the emphasis on gifts, they needed a respite. Research methodology consisted of quantitative and qualitative measures used sequentially to study existing and post-intervention Christian character levels. Through focus on self-awareness and gift-awareness, statistically significant change occurred. The project involved a series of workshops that taught people a variety of spiritual exercises and the biblical/theological foundations for spiritual gifts; provided definitions for the gifts of the Spirit listed in Scripture; and, discussed the implications of gifts discovery in the life of the congregation.  The workshop participants answered pre-workshop and post-workshop questionnaires which were analyzed according to the contributions of psychological type theory.
