The intent of the project was to discover an approach having the potential to transform an introverted survival church into a vital faith-based urban empowerment center. The effect of positive faith on physical, mental, and spiritual wellness was tested.  Verbal and written responses of a group of twenty volunteers from the First United Methodist Church of Monahans, Texas to a series of sermons and positive coaching was the basis of this study.  The participants ranged in age from seventeen to seventy five. Canadian Armed Forces"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This is a pilot program designed to identify the types of issues and skills useful to chaplains and other health care professionals working with military members suffering from symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  As a result, a spiritual health presentation was developed and taught to a group of seven military members of the Canadian Armed Forces as part of a psycho-educational PTSD group program.  Administration of questionnaires and verbal responses was the the basis of the evaluation of effectiveness. One workshop and a sermon series were used in the test congregation to transform the church into a more inclusive faith community.  The results of the post-test questionnaire showed that attitudes and assumptions of the test congregation have been transformed. A seven-session series with videos and a workbook was created to heighten awareness of maintenance mode ministry and evoke renewal through memory and identity.  A leader was recruited to lead a test congregation through videos, workbook, and discussion, and to gather data from verbal and written responses. It is both adaptable to Asian values and responsive to socio-economic factors affecting both the society and the Church. A six-week program conducted in the church enabled participants to do their own grief work and provide support to the congregation.  Resources and training were provided by Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio through the certifies bereavement specialist chaplain.  Pretests, posttests, and observation were used to evaluate the program. A worship-centered, sickle cell pain intervention support group was developed, implemented and evaluated for six weeks.  Subjects were their won control group.  Using a 0-10 Numeric Pain Inventory Scale (NPIS) subjects measured personal pre- and post-intervention pain levels.  Analysis of NPIS data on both first and last visits showed subjects' pain levels significantly reduced following interventions.  Summary and analysis of patients' comments corroborated and strengthened the analytical results.
