A review of literature on the ars moriendi tradition reveals common themes of hope, compassion, and patience. For the African American community, the Bible continues to be the source for understanding death. Among this community, acceptance of hospice services has been slow. The project was developed to help the African American community embrace hospice care. An end-of-life care workshop that partnered hospice caregivers and African American church leadership was developed. By utilizing research and statistics, the writer sought to determine what the African American houses of worship are doing or not doing and what is needed going forward to help eradicate HIV/AIDS. What the writer discovered as a result of research, interviews, and workshops was that some of the clergy in the city and across the state of New Jersey were willing to start an HIV/AIDS ministry in their churches. The writer also documented the fact that there were those among the clergy willing to have someone come to their church once a quarter to speak on HIV/AIDS. Others were willing to put HIV/AIDS facts in their Sunday morning bulletins... Other pastors committed to providing pastoral care and counseling to those who were infected and affected. Some were willing to preach sermons on HIV/AIDS, place HIV/AIDS material in their houses of worship, and to have condom demonstration sessions set up for both males and females as part of the New Jersey Human Development Corporation's objective of education and prevention."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716708058923008,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:06:41.283Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:58:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:11:20Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f6c336e5-dd21-4c28-a173-31e3baf0c5f3","accessControl_ssim":["d627ee5a-869c-40df-a493-8fd3188fc87c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Health and wholeness: building spiritual health and physical well being of seniors in the Centennial-Caroline Street United Methodist Church and neighboring communities"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:58:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:10:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5d843d5e-2034-4cc2-9fd2-878538616f9b"],"hasLease_ssim":["2f0bc2a2-7661-485a-b58c-ad4bcbe94d5a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Fred D Smith"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Ministry in the black church will have to be holistic in order to adequately deal with the multiple needs of black people. Growth-groups can assist black people to explore internal, debilitating conditions, and can help create changes in perceptual awareness. Increased self-understanding will help the Afro-American sub-culture to grow in the direction of personal, theological, and social wholeness."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126357768404992,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:26:44.841Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:58:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:54:54Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"07b3d8e2-d6f2-48db-b04d-fe8deb86e4a1","accessControl_ssim":["efdd2e83-67af-4a5d-a818-521014b8caa5"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Christian centered leadership: every member a minister ministries"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:58:58Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:20:43Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4e3167e0-c31f-434b-a57a-2b426d3db535"],"hasLease_ssim":["9c6991ae-44e8-42ea-bbea-f363ca57a467"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James C Logan"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The sermons, workshops, conferences, gift assessment, and Bible studies were tools that aided the transformation.
