Self help advice versus God centered instruction: can biblical expositional preaching provide answers for contemporary issues?"],"abstract_tesim":["In today's culture, it seems as if the voice of the therapeutic culture is louder and having more validity than the word of God.  As the pastor of the historic Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, GA, the author was able to ask the question: can biblical expositional preaching help a multigenerational church steeped in therapeutic culture deal with contemporary issues?  A case study was produced where first the author developed a focus group to develop the contemporary issues that were important to the congregation as well as a survey to identify the top contemporary issues to be highlighted in a sermon series preached at Tabernacle Baptist Church.  After the sermon series, those who participated in the initial survey were asked to participate in a follow-up survey to see if the preaching was helpful in dealing with contemporary issues. In this paper, the author has designed a ministry tool that improves upon the existing visual arts worship resources by providing background information and theological observations for the visual art used in the Advent C cycle of lectionary preaching. In addition to their value in text establishment, many variants offer exegetical possibilities which provide homiletical material.  In this project, four passages with textual variants were considered.  A complete textual discussion is followed by an exegesis.  A sermon was then developed which incorporated the textual material.
