In order to determine the theological validity of contemporary worship music, the author created a theological analysis tool with both evaluative and non-evaluative questions. Applying that tool to a sample study of more than seventy contemporary worship songs, he determined that while there are many theologically inadequate songs in widespread usage, there are also a great number of contemporary worship songs that do contain theological integrity. Questionnaires were given before and after the use of the study guide to test its effectiveness. The questionnaires studied a wide range of factors, from social attitude to church involvement.  They also examined attitudes toward the denomination and its leadership.  The factors that tend to correlate with rejection of the new hymnal are: white, male, irregular worship attender, and non-committee member.
