Research revealed that funeral plans are best made in advance, eliminating unnecessary, hidden expenses and avoidance of emotional trauma. One cause is a lack of proper focus on the doctrine of heaven.  Using before and after testing of a class taught using a nine-lesson curriculum based on a lay-oriented book on this doctrine, the study concludes that this book and curriculum were effective in positively influencing the understanding of and attitude toward heaven in the test group.  Such an improvement led to better motivation toward personal godliness and witness in almost all students. In our high tech society the evangelical church has neglected the care of widows by relegating much of its responsibility to secular agencies. This project is a summons to the church to return to the biblical priority of caring for widows in practical ways. Using personal interviews, surveys, statistical analysis, as well as traditional methods of research, the author sought to determine exactly how serious the problem of neglect toward widows is, what their needs are, and how the church might begin a viable ministry to address these needs. A clearer understanding of the inspiration of Scripture is examined from a cultural-historical point of view.
