This dissertation project was designed to increase the passion for lost souls in the heart of every participant in an Apostolic Leadership Model. The thirteen participants visited two apostolic churches, met in monthly meetings for two years, and read about apostolic churches that reach unchurched thousands. Semi-structured interviews were used to measure the effectiveness of the study on thirteen pastors. The total increase of professions of faith grew by 50 percent over the three-year study."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134520074829825,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:36:29.024Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:04:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:40:03Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ea2688cc-f149-4c42-bd39-e8993bf1d6cc","accessControl_ssim":["5ff0031f-fd32-4708-a808-10a533e2b7e4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Attracting and assimilating the unchurched in the 21st century"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:04:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:50:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7a435ff1-3631-4ab0-8e87-7f70c0cff485"],"hasLease_ssim":["693ae464-0dfb-4d82-b24e-f4a58fceda53"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David R Bauer"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David D Durey"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Non-church-affiliated people","Evangelistic work","Church membership"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this study was identifying transferable principles drawn from several churches successful in attracting and assimilating unchurched people.  The multi-case approach selected fifteen leading churches from among the fifty largest churches in the Portland, Oregon/Vancouver, Washington metropolitan area and conducted on-site interviews.  The major findings of this study were in three areas: personal relationships, intentionality, and small groups.  Personal relationships were the most significant reason why unchurched people were attracted to and stayed in church.  These churches were intentional in reaching lost people, welcoming visitors, and providing spiritual formation.  Finally, small groups were the most effective means of helping new people form significant relationships and grow spiritually."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134749004136448,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:40:07.348Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:02:02Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:36:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a9375b78-4696-4207-b78c-c5ea65ee26a7","accessControl_ssim":["cc467b28-5cf5-4669-a97c-aefa9c0dfd61"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["From teflon to velcro: assimilating newcomers into Faithbridge United Methodist Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:01:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:01:58Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e0ee8f37-68f4-47ea-a079-fc571700e2d1"],"hasLease_ssim":["85e3ac34-08d4-4165-a24e-03c37453d4c7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen A Seamands"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["E Kenneth Werlein"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Faithbridge United Methodist Church (Houston, Tex)","Church membership"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation evaluates the effectiveness with which Faithbridge, located in northwest Houston, is assimilating newcomers. The study set out to evaluate the perceptions of selected Free Methodist clergy and ality concerning the way that changes are impacting new members' discipleship. This study used both qualitative and quantitative research, utilizing 46 interviews and 162 survey questionnaires with no comparison group.  When new members have an increased understanding of the principles behind the standards of conduct held by the Free Methodist Church they also: 1) feel they belong to their local congregations and to God; 2) are growing in their spiritual maturity; 3) make the Christian conduct standards a part of their regular behavior; and 4) are growing in their relationships with Jesus Christ. A significant percentage of both clergy and laity observed new members feeling that they belong to their local congregations even though they have joined their churches under new membership requirements.  This evidence shows that the new membership policies and procedures are starting to work."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133955609591808,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:27:30.707Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Barton T Herndon","hits":1,"label":"Barton T Herndon"},{"value":"David D Durey","hits":1,"label":"David D Durey"},{"value":"E Kenneth Werlein","hits":1,"label":"E Kenneth Werlein"},{"value":"Robert G Tuttle","hits":1,"label":"Robert G Tuttle"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Church membership","hits":4,"label":"Church membership"},{"value":"Evangelistic work","hits":1,"label":"Evangelistic work"},{"value":"Evangelistic work--Study and teaching","hits":1,"label":"Evangelistic work--Study and teaching"},{"value":"Faithbridge United Methodist Church (Houston, Tex)","hits":1,"label":"Faithbridge United Methodist Church (Houston, Tex)"},{"value":"Free Methodist Church of North America","hits":1,"label":"Free Methodist Church of North America"},{"value":"Non-church-affiliated people","hits":1,"label":"Non-church-affiliated people"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":4,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Asbury Theological Seminary","hits":4,"label":"Asbury Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":4,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"2002","hits":2,"label":"2002"},{"value":"2001","hits":1,"label":"2001"},{"value":"2004","hits":1,"label":"2004"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Asbury Theological Seminary","hits":4,"label":"Asbury Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Asbury Theological Seminary","hits":4,"label":"Asbury Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":4,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":4,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
