One was a six-week interactive course; the other was an intensive one-day workshop.  Though there were some differences, both proved effective.  Seventeen volunteers participated and final assessments indicated increased levels of awareness and understanding.  Leadership ideas are suggested throughout, as well as an easily understood list of spiritual gifts, plus extensive bibliography. Responses of 34 participants indicated that the provision of programs and activities were a major factor in influencing youth toward participation in the church.  A significant number of the participants felt wanted and needed in the Church. This particular retreat was held in western North Carolina during the fall of 2002. There were twenty-nine participants and fifteen staff who attended the retreat.  There was a daily rhythm established of proper nutrition, educational elements, worship times, play, and small group dynamics.  The participants learned about the importance of diet, exercise and mental health in living with a terminal disease.  They also learned about the importance of story, personal and sacred.  The participants had opportunities to experience God's love through accepting attitudes, unconditional love and agape gifts.  Relationship building activities were conveyed through small group dynamics and community activities in the craft area. Three goals were set up, measured and achieved during this retreat.  Participants experienced reduced anxiety. Participants had an enriched experience of their belovedness in God.  Participants gave voice to their spiritual deepening.  There were positive changes recorded in each of these assessed goals. Twelve adult participants completed the twelve-week leadership training program that was primarily developed from the meta-model.  A battery of instruments was used to assess the effectiveness of the program and skills acquired by the participants. Five lessons were presented to twenty-two teachers and students in the Bukavu Pastor's School.  An evaluation instrument was given to assess their responses to the model. Treatment included cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and magazine photo collage.  Beck Depression Inventory and David Burns' pre- and post-session evaluations were employed.  Results were inconclusive based on small group (five women started, four finished, three completed results) and preliminary nature of the study, but suggest addition of spiritual guidance may help reduce depression as it increases relationship with God.  Other factors contributed highly to results.
