Luke"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Christian church of the twentieth century is fragmented and distant from its first century origins. Major divisions in the church have altered liturgical practices, especially the ritual observance of the sacraments of baptism and Eucharist.  Early Christian worship reflected in the gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts reveals the religious experiences of the church in the last third of the first century.  To the extent that they can be recovered, this project reveals how the sacramental practices of baptism and Eucharist were formative in the Luke/Acts community, how they evolved through twenty centuries of Christianity, and how they present a paradigm for modern Christian worship. When one knows the history of a parish, it gives the members a sense of direction and mission for continuity. In this thesis it is emphasized that the work of the Holy Spirit in preaching is the foundation to make preaching possible.  One of the major problems in preaching is its dryness and weakness, for preaching deals with dry biblical exegesis on the cognitive level rather than spiritual crisis.  This project combines practical suggestions for more effective and powerful preaching, supported by the Holy Spirit, with an understanding from perspectives based on biblical understanding on the work of the Holy Spirit in preaching and in writings of John Wesley and Karl Barth.  The major work of the Holy Spirit in preaching is to make the objective reality of revelation the subjective reality; consequently, preachers and audiences come to believe the text is written for them and overcome the purely cognitive level in preaching. This disruptive change causes people to become 'transient.'  It is ultimately up to the transient to make a decision about what needs to be done, but at times it is very difficult to know what one must do.  The pastoral counselor becomes an important person who can help clarify options.  This is a case study of a Marine who received a bad conduct discharge from the US Marine Corps after being accused of being the instigator of his own accident.  His behavior became antisocial. It proposes an alternative orientation to preaching, one that can be honest about the Bible and the fact that Christianity is only one of the great religions in a multi-cultural, multi-religious world. Alternative understandings of leadership are explored, along with issues of power and authority. The Kosin denomination follows Calvin's Reformed faith.  Thus, the Kosin denomination pulpit tends to be more oriented toward addressing the divine goal of God in preaching than in addressing the human goals.  There needs to be a balance between these two trends in preaching.  Authentic preaching means combining divine and human goals.
