Many pastors leave their place of ministry before they reach their most productive years. Much of the effort to develop ways to sustain effective ministry focuses on the pastor. This study has focused on the spouse of the pastor. The particular focus of this study has been on the phenomenon of the expectations surrounding the pastor usually known as the role of 'pastor's wife'. This present study took advantage of an opportunity to access the data from the Pastor's Summit which was a qualitative research study funding by a grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. Through this present study it was learned that much can be learned about the phenomenon of the role of 'pastor's wife' through the study of systems theory. Those who find themselves in the role of 'pastor's wife' can also benefit from resources relating to family of origin, emotional intelligence, as well as how to identify safe people and develop healthy relationships. Knowing the relationship between marriage and ministry was also discovered to be very important for ministry couples."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131334457950208,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:45:50.983Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:31:27Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:38:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"68b97491-0935-4cb3-a3c5-80376ffee8f7","accessControl_ssim":["877ddcfe-f33a-475c-a6d4-2e68d60d9e9d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Christ-centered preaching from Old Testament narratives"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:31:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:12:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0764518e-5e0e-45b5-92d3-accc489da569"],"hasLease_ssim":["17f9b238-c98c-4fcd-9d65-16a059802c28"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["W Brian Aucker"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mark C Livingston"],"keyword_tesim":["Jesus Christ--Relation to Old Testament"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Bible--Homiletic use","Jesus Christ"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Old Testament preaching is lacking in the following ways: most pastors are not doing it, or most pastors are doing it in the wrong way. Pastors fail to preach the Old Testament because it has cultural, linguistic, and hermeneutical challenges. Pastors preach it incorrectly when they fail to connect it with Christ. The purpose of this study was to understand the Old Testament sermon preparation process employed by pastors who preach Christ-centered sermons. Christ-centered Old Testament preaching is often neglected, and therefore the subject is relevant to every Christian preacher of God's word, and by extension to all congregations. This study employed a qualitative design using a semi-structured interview process with six preachers from various Presbyterian and Baptist denominations. The findings of this study revealed the need for a clear understanding of the Biblical Theology, a Christ-centered conviction concerning the Old Testament, diligent study from the pastor, the use of study aids, a covenanal framework, and a desire to connect the original message with today's congregations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130907636137984,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:39:03.933Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:31:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:41:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7c25763c-eda0-4ae6-a33a-20dbc166b52b","accessControl_ssim":["949a4d5f-b980-4842-a2c7-ec56acbc9bc0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Water over the bridge: exploring the connections in W Berry's vision of community"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:31:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:47:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9f820cf5-bfcb-4d8d-bdbc-f61dd49324a4"],"hasLease_ssim":["fc400ae1-dbe2-44fd-ac60-831b676ac4ba"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Donald Gutherie"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Daniel K Chinn"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Social ethics","Community--Religious aspects--Christianity","Christian ethics","Berry, Wendell, 1934-","Good works (Theology)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["In Wendell Berry's novel A place on Earth, his fictitious character, Ernest Finley, is hired to rebuild a footbridge destroyed by flood waters. This musing reflects Berry's understanding that in order for a community to be healthy, connections must be enacted between all members of a membership: human, non-human, and the place itself. The three relational aspects that connect the members of community are mutuality, responsibility, and affection.
