Understanding these views can help Chinese pastors to preach God's word effectively and to educate their congregations about the significance of expository preaching in pulpit ministry. This study employed a qualitative design, using semi-structured interviews. The review of literature and analysis of the eight interviews focused on three key areas of preaching that revealed the views of the lay leaders on what constituted biblical preaching. These areas of focus were: the views of lay leaders on preaching in light of their various church experiences in different countries, the views of lay leaders on preaching in relation to other contexts of teaching the Bible in the church, and the views of lay leaders on expository preaching. This study revealed that male and female of Chinese lay leaders share similar views of preaching. This study also concluded that Chinese lay leaders held opinions regarding preaching that were similar to those of preaching of Western Christians."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131667131269120,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:51:08.245Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:49:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:40:10Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"72d9abcb-65c2-4df6-b43e-d57c9e889ff1","accessControl_ssim":["03d6f0ac-241e-4dc2-9212-6dc008f688e3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["'What happened?' and 'What now?': exploring how Reformed pastors minister to the parents of apostate emerging adults"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:49:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:29:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["67c54288-fc1b-4c67-aa1d-7c37f42f9829"],"hasLease_ssim":["5c6be98e-7361-4862-9ef4-954ba867890c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["C John Collins"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joost Nixon"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Young adults--Religious life","Reformed Church","Christians","Theology, Practical","Non-church-affiliated people","Apostasy--Christianity","Church work with young adults"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this study was to explore how Reformed pastors minister to the parents of prodigal emerging adult children. (2) How do pastors utilize timing to cultivate collaboration with their boards? (3) How do pastors utilize timing to cultivate collaboration with their boards? The study utilizes a qualitative design using semi-structured interviews with nine church leaders from three different churches of various size in the Midwest. The results of this study demonstrate that the primary initiators within churches are the senior pastors. Three primary conclusions are drawn from this study: (1) it is crucial to understand change as an ongoing process when cultivating a collaborative board and to help others embrace and understand this change; (2) conflict must be constantly handled as an opportunity to grow as leaders; (3) good timing and good ministry is about the pastor's ability to spend time building trust with fellow leaders."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130770638635008,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:36:53.283Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:48:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:50:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f3b25091-6bb4-40dd-81f8-15b48c2d1305","accessControl_ssim":["ffd9b26a-64e9-4eb0-bab2-39e878a8b42c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Musical instruments and musicians in the worship of the Canadian Reformed Churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:48:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:05:21Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["59277da4-3b03-4d94-9333-bd0562356af2"],"hasLease_ssim":["c7398114-0948-42fe-863c-e98b1289211f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Mark L Dalbey"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Theodore E Lodder"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Canadian Reformed Church","Worship","Theology, Practical","Church music--Reformed Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["In the Canadian Reformed Churches there is both a shortage of qualified organists and a growing number of musicians who play musical instruments other than the organ, resulting in much discussion and debate about which musical instruments are the most appropriate for worship.
