Needs become apparent and resistant attitudes change. Volunteers become so involved in rewards of one-on-one ministry that they put aside racial issues. The project is based in a local church community; it is focused on Scripture and on a sacramental and faith understanding of married life; it provides opportunity to practice communication skills through six meetings with 'homework' between meetings; it uses a marriage counselor to train and guide leader couples as a referral resource; it emphasizes peer couple-to-couple ministry based on lived experience in marriage. The six group sessions treat respect for relationship, confidentiality, and group process; needs of women and men; communication skills; stress and its response in men and womwen; sharing and coordinating values; and intimacy and spirituality. This paper explores the impact of Christian ministry on the addictions recovery field--past, present, and future.  The contribution of the church, as a healing institution heralding wholistic care, to those suffering with these diseases is examined within the larger scope of professional healthcare treatment of addictions. These trainees in turn will train the congregation to do the same. The research included the history of the Wesley Methodist Church of Ghana (Brooklyn, NY); theology of evangelism; and evangelism and the Ghanaian community.  The project comprised twelve sessions involving: learning, presentation, and role-playing.
