It is based on 1 Thessalonians 1:5, where Paul lists five components of winning speech: the word of God, power, passion, lifestyle, and the Holy Spirit. It concludes there are three essentials: prayer, faith, and proclaiming the gospel. Any diminishment of the sanctifying and salvific influences of God's Spirit during the sermon is traced to a loss of one of these. The project offers a community model for discernment of gifts as a balance between the subjectivity of spiritual gifts inventories and the objective psychological implications of type theory.
