The first section covers the geopolitical situation in the world and the human situation in the city, both of which indicate the need for ministry to world-class cities. The second section establishes the hermeneutical, theological, ecclesiological, missiological, and apologetical parameters within which this thesis project is written. The third section identifies the dilemma in the city, studies the various Christian responses to the city, and reviews evangelical ministry in Boston. The fourth section evaluates the church-planting ministry with which the writer of this thesis has been involved thus far. On the basis of the findings of these sections, a new ministry plan is presented, encompassing the planting of a model church and the establishment of local, regional, continental, and international networks. These networks are designed to provide the infrastructure for the establishment of churches in other world-class cities."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130257759141888,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:28:44.163Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:00:31Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:53:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9e4c7bb6-3738-43e2-979d-c7ce7dd45032","accessControl_ssim":["87a1a4dd-901b-4f1e-bdac-eda61f3772b1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Literacy: a useful tool in the discipling of the emerging church in India"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:00:27Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:45:43Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8fea7195-2dd9-428f-9d5d-989ae32653ac"],"hasLease_ssim":["e476b416-515a-47ca-afc7-a67d80302ff3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Timothy C Tennent"],"year_tesim":["2006"],"location_tesim":["India"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Donald Edward Chapman"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Discipling (Christianity)","Christians","Poverty","Literacy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The thesis of this project is that discipleship in the emerging church in India is hindered by illiteracy. Major conclusions include (i) the formation of God-dependent, Christ-like, culturally competent South Asian church leaders, (ii) relationship-oriented mentoring of these leaders within church-based heterogeneous small groups, and (iii) the strengthening of such leadership formation through mutual partnerships between the South Asian and the Western church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130039042965504,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:15.579Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:00:04Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:02:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c71f503e-6f6c-471c-ac05-ee8eb958dc33","accessControl_ssim":["98590922-4170-442e-ac93-81b76f957c36"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Moving towards multiethnic ministry through transformational leadership"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:00:03Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:50:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["76e6ab2f-8383-4242-81a7-0ac3415c3b08"],"hasLease_ssim":["0f6c0c18-d33f-42e9-9e73-14de1eebe565"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Steven W Klipowicz"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gregory L Cruell"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Cultural pluralism","Christianity and culture","Race relations","Church","Church--Unity","Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Many sociologists and anthropologists have stated that by the decade 2050-2060, there will no longer be a majority culture in America. Although progress has been noted concerning ethnic and racial relationships among America's citizenship, it is also clear that our nation must continue to move forward in breaking down ethnic and racial barriers that still divide. This dissertation proposes that the solution to what still separates one racial or ethnic group from another begins in the multiethnic church through transformational leadership. The multiethnic church or many diverse people, influence, motivated, stimulated and considerate of God's design for humankind, assists in moving the church and ultimately our nation to become the answer to our Lord's prayer in John 17:11: 'Father, make them one as you and I are one.'"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132368854056960,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:02:17.460Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:00:02Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:03:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"cd646156-8b03-4fc3-9947-928f1649ea0f","accessControl_ssim":["834cf0ea-e1ad-423a-9c44-fac52426a1f4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Verbal, spiritual abuse in Christian families"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:59:59Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:01:43Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["262400e0-c223-41b9-9573-d9dc91d76277"],"hasLease_ssim":["7a72d197-6044-4d2a-b419-1ad92caf290a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Alice P Mathews"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Sherrie A McDonald"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Self-help groups","Church work with abuse victims","Abused wives"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Christian women suffer verbal, psychological, and spiritual abuse from their husbands at an alarming rate. It also demonstrates the need for church leaders to be educated regarding abuse and the Bible's response to it, so they can be effective ministers of the gospel."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132468252770304,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:03:52.254Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:59:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:29:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"29b10eb5-710d-4d8f-87ac-819f6ee99e73","accessControl_ssim":["31bcaf2a-7da9-4156-8916-8bf7d377754b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The long haul: the story of successful church transformation in a New England mainline denominational setting and what your church can learn from it"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:59:58Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:21:20Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ffda3f12-019e-46ec-808c-3e1137ed8661"],"hasLease_ssim":["7aee65d1-af9e-42a7-a29d-21596ccae6e6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Raymond F Pendleton"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kevin B Crispell"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Mission statements","Church polity","Planning","Change--Religious aspects","Church renewal--Protestant churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["There is a surprising dearth of literature on the actual mechanics or micro scale of church renewal and transformation. Set in New England, a region renowned for resistance to change, this is the story of one church's successful transformation from a mainline denominational affiliation to a newly formed association of conservative churches. Calls from the evangelicals of the UMC to return to the missio Dei expressed in scripture, traditions of the church, and Wesleyan tradition, have been met with resistance and often forced leaders to form ministries independent of the GBGM. The loss of missionaries devoted to evangelistic practices is due to this basic theological divide. This project is a series of surveys asking basic theological questions of the staff of the GDGM, its missionaries, and some local church pastors. It concludes that the leadership of the missions arm of the UMC is still theologically liberal or liberationist/radical while the local UM churches are more traditional. I conclude that the loss of missionaries dedicated to church planting and offering Christ to unreached people groups is due to this division. I call for a new denominational mission theology based upon the 'emerging ecumenical paradigm' centered on the local church. Based specifically on Acts 1:8 I offer a supplement outlining what such a theology would mean for a local church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132256898646016,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:00:30.691Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:59:55Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:03:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"cd8e4019-aebc-4e91-a077-95296aa75ec5","accessControl_ssim":["ba084da7-ca35-456c-80df-9b6d435c3ac3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Maximizing faith development in physicians during internship"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:59:53Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:01:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["264bf90e-1c23-4e6a-8c5a-c14c93a5cef4"],"hasLease_ssim":["4e8d890d-cb68-458b-b559-b195d2dda438"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Timothy K Beougher"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["M Jane Goleman"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Mentoring in church work","Physicians","Interns (Education)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Providing a relevant biblical curriculum within a relationship of encouragement, accountability, and prayer, will facilitate spiritual growth in interns, integration of faith in medical practice, and discipleship.
