The research of the project uses methods from the Congregational Studies Institute (July 3-13, 1984, Union Seminary, New York) in the areas of identity, context, program and process.  It applies them to the author's ministerial setting.  The second purpose of this project is to develop an outline of a five-year plan for mission and ministry which the leadership of the author's congregation could use to understand the church's changing socio-cultural environment.  The research uncovers a mission orientation in the learned identity, context, program and process of the congregation. This project is a case study. Sixteen events which involve nine local churches in Norwich, Connecticut, are designed, enacted and evaluated.  Each congregation is associated with one of the denominations active in the Consultation on Church Union. The major problem addressed is how to overcome the apathy and resistance to interchurch cooperation among Protestant churches within a medium-sized metropolitan community. Two small groups decided upon issues, gathered resources and presented two worship services each. Chaburah, the house church and basic Christian communities were used as models.  The project used a questionnaire, evaluation forms and informal conversations to evaluate its effectiveness.  Reality was confronted, barriers were overcome, community was fostered, mutual understanding was enhanced and the biblical heritage was taken seriously. Six business persons met monthly with the pastor for one year. Thorugh a series of educational experiences and discussions, they developed a plan of ministry. As a result of this extensive process the plan was well thought out, relevant, and tailored to the needs of the business persons in this particular local church.  The group was now confident that they could encourage others to participate in this pastoral and educational ministry of clarification, support and
