Historical research on infant communion is applied to the practice of communing persons who are profoundly mentally retarded.  From the applied research a sound theological rationale for administering communion to persons who are profoundly mentally retarded is developed. The researcher is a district justice and a pastor.  He uses his position to extract information from both professions on their perceptions of each others roles.  The study is based on the experience of the researcher, instrumentation and a workshop.  It shows the need for more pastoral involvement in the courts and shows that both pastors and district justices are open to such ministry.  It clarifies the role of the pastor in the court and challenges pastors to become involved in court ministry.  The study addresses five concerns of the district justices regarding pastoral involvement in the courts. It uses recent scholarship which claims that Israel came into existence in the Highlands around 1250 BCE as a federation of heterogenous groups of marginalized people.  The author reconstructs both the person and the book of Amos by relying on works by Gottwald, Hopkins and Coote.  This sociological approach provides the preacher with new insights into the Biblical tradition and illuminates numerous connections of consequence for today's society. Pastors in three Presbyterian churches lead their elders in field testing of the design.  Participants take pre- and post-tests and provide concluding evaluations which show significant increases in knowledge and understanding of baptism.  Testing the design in churches with the pastors as leaders demonstrates that the program can be used effectively by others. These seven United Methodist churches are located in third class cities in Pennsylvania because these cities, being smaller in size, provide certain options of ministry which are not present in larger cities. Questionnaires were sent to 260 persons who joined these seven churches within the last five years. These questionnaires included, along with certain demographic material, vignettes of churces which elicited certain characteristics of those who choose to join inner-city churches.  From these characteristics a theological statement concerning the inner-city church and five possible strategies are described. The study examines the educational history of New Mexico and the involvement of Presbyterians in parochial and mission schools.  Eight groups of persons related to the institution were surveyed. The results, included in the study, are analyzed concerning expectations.  The study suggests possible directions in a report made to school trustees. Using the factorial survey approach as developed by Peter H Rossi, vignettes were constructed for response by persons in government.  These were analyzed, along with biographical data collected from the respondents. Results of research indicate people in state government practice religion themselves and are responsive to issues, both public policy-justice issues and self-interest issues of the religious community.  They place a high value on knowledgeability of advocates.
