Its authority has been lost because modern Christians have not been taught 'what' the Old Testament is.  It is not a book of science, history, or anthropology.  Because some think that it is this type of book, modern readers consider the Old Testament to be in conflict with their culture, experience and science.  The project introduces the cultural milieu of Israel, the mythological backgrounds of the Old Testament, the literary genre, the history of interpretation, and Protestant authority bases. The results indicate that the primary hypothesis is true in the three case studies presented. The church now lacks the resources to offer these families the education, support and spiritual guidance which would strengthen the relationships of the couples and the families, make their expectations more realistic and identify the characteristics, stages and developmental tasks of remarriage.  This paper helps fill this gap with a six week structured workshop for remarried couples with blended families. The author employs the principle of dialogue in communication to substantiate this conclusion.  He supplements the use of this principle with a theology of revelation and with the word of God.  Paramount to this principle of dialogue is self-disclosure, which is made possible through the mutual sharing of meanings from the life experiences of both the proclaimer and the hearer. The project develops a 'theological plumbline' or measuring guideline from the writings of the noted theologian Dr Juergen Moltmann, in order to establish an identity model for the church.  In addition, a sociological-psychological survey is developed that replicates the Presbyterian Committee National Study of 1976 Examination of Membership Loss. The replicated study is applied to a pilot church, the United Church of Riverview, Michigan.
