The research for this project included the reading and synthesis of religious and secular literature in the area of leadership and the author's experience and participation in two leadership evaluation processes.  The results of this research reaffirmed that the pastoral role is one of leadership in the congregation.  Pastoral leadership is described as stewardship, vision development, and is self-defining. The result informs four tasks of pastoral care: 1) training of volunteer leadership, 2) planning job careers with teens, 3) offering spiritual direction, and 4) assisting worship leaders in their planning.  Pastoral care is trinitarian.  Gifts given in creation (personality types) provide the means to the common unity to which the Church is called (sanctification). Such harmony is made possible through atonement (redemption). Decisions are made by consensus.  Plurality is acknowledged. Variety is cherished.
