The thesis was tested through the efforts of a lay ministry team.  This group arrived at a definition of lay ministry and implemented their ministry through several case studies which are presented. Using a year-long sermon series based on the Psalms, the thesis shows that one can meaningfully tell the whole story of Jesus Christ as our faith is modeled to us in the Apostles Creed.  Such sermons also use the original search for meaning that each Psalm represents to help today's Christian community invoke God's presence in our joy and crises. Theological reflection relates these developments to Avery Dulles' understanding of revelation as mediating symbol."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718506003955712,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:35:15.937Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:35:47Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:47:31Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"35813980-7b91-4692-91b0-722193a46699","accessControl_ssim":["567637bf-9891-4a0d-b559-b2e81796df98"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An appropriate ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua, New Guinea, to those affected by alcohol \u0026 alcohol-related problems"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:35:46Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:40:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b440f662-a8b2-4bc9-ab37-8fb79610a652"],"hasLease_ssim":["42eaf626-c82f-46f4-858c-efe48858925f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Luther Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Martin Heist"],"year_tesim":["1984"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ronald F Schardt"],"publisher_tesim":["Luther Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Alcohol","Service (Theology)","Church and social problems","Alcoholism"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["A servant-model ministry is an appropriate approach for addressing persons and families suffering from abuse of alcohol and alcohol-related problems. Each of the steps is viewed in the thesis.  Some of the theological/biblical themes that emerge are: pneumatology and faith, conversion/spiritual transformation, confession, reconciliation and forgiveness, justification by grace, sanctification, freedom, baptism, prayer and meditation, worship, spiritual awakening, evangelism, and discipleship. Research is gathered from existing data and excerpts from over 30 taped interviews with persons who are either recovering alcoholics or are CD counselors in a treatment program and have some affiliation with the Christian faith. They were asked as to any theological/biblical themes they perceived in the twelve steps.  The intent of this thesis is to assist in the construction of bridges for communication and understanding between those in AA and those in the church. It begins with an overview of the Oxford Group Movement and its 8 points and explores the birth of AA looking specifically at the lives of the co-founders.  The thesis concludes with examples of how an understanding of the 12 steps can be used in ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126641922015232,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:31:15.832Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":89,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Brian D Mundt","hits":2,"label":"Brian D Mundt"},{"value":"Alan A Hendrickson","hits":1,"label":"Alan A Hendrickson"},{"value":"Amos L Gimbi","hits":1,"label":"Amos L Gimbi"},{"value":"Andre B Heuer","hits":1,"label":"Andre B Heuer"},{"value":"Archibald James Pell","hits":1,"label":"Archibald James Pell"},{"value":"Armin R Heidmann","hits":1,"label":"Armin R Heidmann"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Religious surveys","hits":6,"label":"Religious surveys"},{"value":"Relation (Theology)","hits":2,"label":"Relation (Theology)"},{"value":"Theology, Lutheran","hits":2,"label":"Theology, Lutheran"},{"value":"Accreditation (Churches)","hits":1,"label":"Accreditation (Churches)"},{"value":"Catholic Church--Doctrine","hits":1,"label":"Catholic Church--Doctrine"},{"value":"Congregations--Internal conflict","hits":1,"label":"Congregations--Internal conflict"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Lutheran Church","hits":10,"label":"Lutheran Church"},{"value":"Church work","hits":7,"label":"Church work"},{"value":"Pastoral counseling","hits":7,"label":"Pastoral counseling"},{"value":"Pastoral theology","hits":7,"label":"Pastoral theology"},{"value":"Church work with older people","hits":5,"label":"Church work with older people"},{"value":"Clergy","hits":5,"label":"Clergy"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[{"value":"Africa","hits":1,"label":"Africa"},{"value":"Argentina","hits":1,"label":"Argentina"},{"value":"Brazil","hits":1,"label":"Brazil"},{"value":"Iowa","hits":1,"label":"Iowa"},{"value":"Latin America","hits":1,"label":"Latin America"},{"value":"New Mexico","hits":1,"label":"New Mexico"}],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":89,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Luther Seminary","hits":89,"label":"Luther Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":89,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1981","hits":7,"label":"1981"},{"value":"1983","hits":7,"label":"1983"},{"value":"1984","hits":6,"label":"1984"},{"value":"1982","hits":5,"label":"1982"},{"value":"1986","hits":5,"label":"1986"},{"value":"1987","hits":5,"label":"1987"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Miscellaneous","hits":89,"label":"Miscellaneous"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":89,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Luther Seminary","hits":89,"label":"Luther Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":89,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":6,"next_page":7,"prev_page":5,"total_pages":9,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":50,"total_count":89,"first_page?":false,"last_page?":false}}}
