The challenge is to change the ministry of the church by transforming its sociological structure as a small church operating as an inner single cell into a sociological structure characterized by its inclusive and multiplication groups. The process of change will be built on groups theory, under the theological principle. The church should be an open, inclusive community to help as God's instrument to demolish the obstacles that separate men from God and one from another."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128614789447681,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:02:37.305Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:29:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:55:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"50687d68-1e21-4815-a341-5109d3fd4929","accessControl_ssim":["4c323670-f819-4041-90fb-16e2c9d3090f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Citizenship in the community of faith: a new member assimilation program"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:29:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:29:34Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["550ec474-d11c-4723-9d8e-975281df8a4a"],"hasLease_ssim":["0eec5ab9-a010-44cc-80fe-9d9e0cdf3bb4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Hugh Halverstadt"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David E Rosen"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Assimilation (Sociology)","Church membership"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church shares the struggle common to many churches of not fully assimilating all new members into its life and work. The challenge of designing and carrying out a new member assimilation program aimed at introducing new members to the full range of opportunities for members to participate faithfully is the focus of this study. The theological principle undergirding this study maintains that the church is ideally a human community that attracts and receives new members, seeks to introduce them to its shared values, norms, memory, convictions and actions so they may participate fully in its life and work as 'citizens in the community of faith.' This study examines citizenship from biblical, historical and sociological points of view. The most important conclusions of this study are that people joining a church are seeking ways to become fully participatory in a faith community; that the process of assimilation requires the common knowledge of opportunities open to all participants to experience the benefits and responsibilities of belonging; and that effective assimilation processes are a collective effort."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128170615799809,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:55:33.708Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:28:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:02:42Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b4620b0a-dce2-429c-b4a2-50ee0fe1974e","accessControl_ssim":["8f7d3252-2b05-4924-bccb-e88deb5c72fc"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A sanctuary of rest for re-creation: a church ministry in an era of constant stress"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:28:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:20:28Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8781b187-8f6d-47ce-a728-7cc0cddba7f2"],"hasLease_ssim":["b52eaa59-ae0c-4307-995a-09b901c27712"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Thomas R Hawkins"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Donald J Heringa"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Stress","Rest"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The world is experiencing a health crisis due to a dramatic increase in chronic stress. This study examines the ways the church can empower members and congregations using rest for re-creation. By examining traditional Christian Sabbath perspectives and modern scientific theories of human stress reduction and empowerment, this study prepares a process for churches to emphasize rest and stress relief.
