The project director gathered and analyzed demographics information to more effectively understand the general composition of the population of the city of Sheffield, Alabama, and its surrounding communities. The project director explored the biblical models for evangelism and church growth found in the Bible, gathering resources to provide the strategic planning team with the necessary scriptural and historical support. Next, the project director interviewed pastors and church leaders whose churches are experiencing significant growth in areas with cultural and demographic similarities to that of York Terrace Baptist Church. Finally, utilizing the resources gathered, the project director and a strategic planning team developed an evangelistic, church-growth plan for York Terrace Baptist Church. The first step involved an in-depth study of FBCH's attendance trends from 2005 to 2015 based on the annual church profile reports and recorded church history. The project director compared discipleship strategies of churches with similar characteristics and conducted a survey of church leaders to determine the current condition of FBCH discipleship. The research showed that FBCH plateaued in attendance from 2008 to 2013. The project director determined that FBCH needed a disciple-making strategy that led to multiplication and focused on transformation. Along with an analysis of area demographics, the director presented these findings to a selected group of church leaders for approval. Sonrise was planted in 2003 and is located in the western section of Mobile County. This area of Mobile is growing rapidly with a variety of homes ranging from starter homes from young families to high end custom-built homes for the more affluent. With all of this growth in the community, Sonrise is experiencing steady growth. In spite of the present growth, the project director sees a need to establish a systematic plan to maintain healthy church growth through prayer, evangelism, and discipleship. The project director will evaluate community data, do research in historical and contemporary church growth, and do research in the current organizational structure of Sonrise.
