Four small groups were formed and met for six sessions utilizing activities and studies centered around the concept of the family of God.  Activities common to biological families were highlighted and applied to the church family. Deacon of the church were trained to lead the small groups. Students were evaluated by empirical observation, that involved the student, a peer, and adviser, and the discipler, and reproducibility in a second small group.  The students practiced relational skills and the spiritual disciplines of: daily prayer, Bible reading, time stewardship, group accountability and journal keeping.  The discipler served as a mentor and as a model for the disciplines. Measurements were obtained by the use of a semantic differential pre-test and post-test given to the participants, and by the same tests given to a control group. Supportive data was furnished by a written subjective evaluation by the participant.
