Census data from within the church membership is compared to community census data. Attitudes and feelings are measured by comparing a church member focus group with a focus group of community people not members of the church. This study finds that rural congregations can do quality evaluations of their communities. This was facilitated through a five-week small group experience in which adults studied Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter.  They then applied themes from those sermons to their life stories, and shared them in the group. The author, through the use of qualitative research, discovered that a church administrative structure that has spiritual leaders, i.e. elders or equivalent, as its prime-leadership team is generally more effective for churches over five hundred members. The author, therefore, sought for healthy models among growing churches in such settings and studied their common characteristics. Twenty-one possible growth dynamics were identified and eleven churches were studied to ascertain which of these dynamics were common to them and to what degree they might account for growth. Fifteen characteristics were found to contribute to the growth of churches and nine of these emerged as significant. Church leadership went through a self-evaluation and drew up a ten-year financial report.  They designed a questionnaire and used it to analyze change.  The minister delivered six sermons on financial stewardship.  Findings showed that attitudes did not generate the shortfall in giving.  The denomination sets goals too high.  Members gave generously to a variety of causes.  Leaders then guided small group discussions to encourage members, discuss allocation of funds, and make suggestions for the 1993 budget. Four main studies were included: the study of prayer's impact upon family evangelism; the effectiveness of having a 'family ties' sermon series and a family outreach Sunday; a look at some barriers to rural evangelism; and the effectiveness of specific training in household evangelism through a retreat format. Through comparing life-issues identified by church members with those identified by members of the community who called the police for help, the author exposed issues the preacher would be unaware of unless his or her contact goes beyond the church. The goal of the project is to provide pastors with a tithing seminar experience.  Data, collected from 71 pastors through a survey questionnaire, was analyzed and a seminar developed to stimulate an interest in tithing.  A four-week tithing program was implemented in a test local church by a pastor who attended a tithing seminar.  The pastors were equipped to assist believers and exposed to resources to help them lead to a tithing emphasis. The Chinese community in North America is still a distinct community within a Western society, and has little Christian pre-evangelism factors to build on.  This ministry project was carried out first by equipping two laymen in continuing witness training, followed by three pre-marital preparation (pastoral) counseling training sessions.  The sessions dealt with such issues as reasons for pre-marital preparation, communication, listening, acceptance, Gospel, finances, and in-laws.
