Will they be able to live more consistently as Christian disciples in the world? This project seeks to answer these questions a pretest/posttest questionnaire administered to 68 laypersons.  The experimental group of 34 persons received six hours of theological instruction. The control group of 34 persons received no instruction. The author sought to use the theological criteria of experience, reason, scripture and tradition by studying Wingeier's 'Working Out Your Own Beliefs'.  He taught how Douglas Wingeier, John Macquarrie and Donald Bloesch applied these same criteria to their theological studies. The different criteria that each theologian stressed was discussed with an adult class as they learned to accept or reject each criteria and to follow their own theological guideline in faith translation. Schleiermacher, Barth, Bultmann, Tillich and Moltmann are considered as most important from theological literature.  Freud, Jung, Frankl, Maslow, Rogers and May are the psychologists discussed.  A case presentation is utilized to allow an interpretation of theological and psychological constructs.  Specific conclusions and implications are drawn for pastoral care, theological education, church ministry and lay application.
