Four sermons were preached in a worship setting, two deductive and two inductive. The project involved in-depth interviews with church members who had experienced significant crises in their church. The responses fell into the catagories of: the church as community; memory; hope; aspects of the respondents' personalities; and pastoral leadership.  By far the most significant unifying force for these groups was the fellowship of the congregation. 'Living Into Our Baptism,' developed by Hughes and Westerhoff, is evaluated through participant interviews as an in-depth preparatory process leading to baptismal reaffirmation. The community group that organized to resist the facility's construction was well organized and active, but manifested parochial and anthropocentric characteristics.  The author hypothesized that through sermons, a study group, and an eco-justice statement, members of the Mount Jackson Presbyterian Church would come to understand eco-justice from a more global and theocentric perspective. The class member makes a weekly visit, plays a tape recording of the class session, discusses and records the home-bound member's reflections on the curriculum, and speaks about and for the elderly member at the next class meeting. He conducted in-depth interviews with 10 persons to determine their satisfaction in congregational service.  The author then developed a Bible study which included their talents as well as the spiritual gifts topic.  After the study each person prepared a survey form which was given to the congregational gift counselor. The project is an intervention program of eight sessions which confronts the participants with their powerlessness. The underlying philosophy is Alcoholics Anonymous.  The methods used in the sessions are the pedagogy of shared praxis developed by Thomas Groome.  In terms of motivation the participants were asked to attend a support group for recovery. This goal was pursued through a series of seven sermons on the key theological images, followed by weekly celebration of the Lord's Supper, coupled with seven adult classes and four sessions with children. The biblical reference for the project came from Jeremiah 36.  The participants in the program were lay persons from St Luke's Episcopal Church, Mobile, Alabama.  They committed themselves to read selected passages from Holy Scripture, to reflect upon the same through contemplation and to write journal entries related to the experience.  Two questionnaires provided empirical data on the project, which lasted 30 days.
