It evaluates biblical and historical foundations, and then explores current Southern Baptist leadership practices. Questionnaires were sent to all 43 congregations, and all were returned.  Data was also collected from the 1997 PCA Yearbook.  The churches were then ranked, and five each were selected from the top, middle, and bottom third, and their pastors interviewed concerning the missions giving of their congregations. Part of the analysis is based on a personal journal kept by the author over a period of 35 weeks.  Other analysis is based upon data collected from 48 randomly chosen students at Bible Teachers Institute in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  They were asked to complete a two-part survey on their practice and perception of fasting.
