The project focused on the explicit and implied responsibilities of the assistant and associate pastors within the context of a large African-American church. The senior pastor, who had a need to delegate pastoral care and administrative functions, assigned some of these responsibilities to the pastoral staff. The thesis is that adult church members who discover their call to ministry will become more involved in the ministry of the church.  The literary research treats the relationship between clergy and laity.  Calling, gifts of the Spirit for ministry, the priesthood of all believers, and Baptist treatment of vocation are covered. The social research consists of an experiment utilizing a control group and a study group of ten adults each.
