Intentional visitation ministries to aged shut-ins focus on the emotional and spiritual needs related to their well-being.  A ten-week training program and visitation assignments help equip persons with knowledge, attitudes, and skills related to the priestly function of ministry with the aged and dying.  A training group and control (non-training) group visited two groups of aged shut-ins. Surveys and focused interviews evaluated the effect of the training program. The writer first researched Western models of marriage enrichment and gathered materials which were presented to an indigenous pilot group. This group tested and further developed materials which are culturally sensitive and suitable for use in Fiji.  The results of pre- and post-program evaluation instruments, administered to two marital and two control groups, indicated that the program positively affected the marriages of the participants. Since spirituality has been shown to be a significant factor in recovery, this program was designed with two prongs: instruction (10 one-hour sessions) and community service (35 hours), which provided ways to enhance the DUI participants' spiritual well-being. Theological insights from J Fowler, ethicist Glen Stassen, and Craig Dykstra were woven into a complex decision-making model for ethical decision-making. Literary research from Chile, as well as the United States, revolved around the cultural factors that operate within this focused Latin American community.  Theological, pastoral, and structural factors were considered as well. The social research tools involved structured interviewing and pretest/posttest questionnaires.
