The project led the deacons to discover their style for managing conflict, identified the types of conflict, examined the nature of church conflict, and presented various strategies which are effective for resolving church conflict.  The theological rationale for conflict ministry included three biblical case studies of conflict, the ministry of the diaconate, and a theology and practice of conflict management. The people were then led in developing a plan for ministry to their changing community. A task force was created by the church to oversee the planning and implementation of ministry actions.  Specific actions taken included a vacation Bible school, a transportation ministry, and a community interaction event. Four films were used to deal with four topics. The films were: When Harry Met Sally, Driving Miss Daisy, Ordinary People, and Terms of Endearment.  The films chosen dealt with human sexuality, racism, dysfunctional families, and death, respectively.  Biblical research was done in the area of the church and images.  Sociological and psychological research was done related to students and the four topics.  Testing was done with a control group of 12 students and a group of at-large students. The project employed a treatment effects format, documenting change with scales measuring self-esteem, locus of control and level of stress. Literary research examined the holistic evangelistic ministries of Jesus, Francis of Assisi, John Wesley, and C E Matthews, and holistic evangelism in the New Testament.  Social research involved a sermon series, weekend retreat lessons, and annual planning classes.
