Chapter 1 outlines the purpose, goals, context, rationale, and research methodology for the project. Chapter 2 provides the theological and exegetical basis for using the Book of Ecclesiastes as pedagogy. Salient issues related to the purpose and meaning of Ecclesiastes are discussed with special attention directed to the project's curriculum, Ecclesiastes 2:1-11. A justification for Solomonic authorship is presented as well. Chapter 3 explores expository preaching in the context of postmodernism. This chapter defines 'postmodernism' and traces the development of hermeneutics as the foundation of postmodern thought. It also examines the rationale for employing expository preaching as both antithesis and antidote for postmodernity. Chapters 4 and 5 present the specific elements of the ministry project. Organization of test groups is described and pre-test/post-test questionnaire methodology is detailed. Research into why people do or do not forgive was made through personal interviews, questionnaires and literature search. The family unit as a system was reviewed and three therapeutic counseling methods designed to bring forth forgiveness were examined. Data revealed realistic actions that can be taken to improve pastoral counseling and provide for healing among family members. Emphasis is given to the alarming failure rate of newly planted MBA congregations during the study period. Chapter 1 defines the problem. Attention is given to statistical information and an overview of the presuppositions governing the association's church planting program during the study period. Additionally, the project's thesis is put forth. Chapter 2 provides historical context by reviewing the emergence of the Massachusetts Baptist Association. Additionally, the comparative histories of two MBA church plants are included. The first illustrates the association's previous church planting mindset; the second demonstrates the 'missions' mindset advocated by this work. Chapter 3 is an analysis of Kennon Callahan's thinking relative to missions and the church planting task. Attention is given to the implications of Callahan's assertions that we live in 'the day of mission,' and that North America must be viewed as a mission field comparable to any other world mission field. Chapter 4 addresses the justification for and construction of a new church planting philosophy and hermeneutic for the MBA. Emphasis is placed on the value and necessity of each to inform future church planting in the association. Chapter 5 is a record of the analytical process and implementation of the new philosophy and hermeneutic. How these statements impacted a specific church plant, the church planter, and the association are reviewed in detail. This work contends that Massachusetts is a mission field not unlike any other world mission field. Further, it asserts that the previous failure rate of newly planted churches was due in no small part to the lack of 'mission' thinking in the planting process. The consultant assists local pastors in Lancaster, South Carolina, to develop a team ministry approach within each fellowship. Chapter 2 shows a biblical basis for a team ministry. This chapter builds upon the Old Testament ministry of Elijah, Moses, Jethro, and the New Testament teachings of Jesus and the Apostle Paul. Chapter 3 is based upon team development as it is developed in the business world. Attention is given to how the business world succeeds in the development of teams. Chapter 4 is the consultant's project for helping pastors develop a team ministry within their congregations. 'A Path for Team Development' was created by the consultant to accomplish this task. Chapter 1 outlines the purpose, goals, context, rationale, and research methodology.  Chapter 2 provides the biblical and theological foundations for missions.  Texts were selected from the Old and New Testament to demonstrate God's mission mandate.  The doctrines of soteriology, ecclesiology, and eschatology were examined.  Chapter 3 discusses the historical foundation for missions with regard to specific individuals.  David Brainerd, William Carey, Adoniram Judson, Lottie Moon, and Annie Armstrong were presented as examples of those who laid the foundation for missions.  The International Mission Board and the North American Mission Board were presented as examples of specific Southern Baptist involvement in worldwide missions. Chapters 4 and 5 present the elements of the ministry project.  The focus groups are formed; a pre-test and post-test questionnaire are used to measure the effectiveness of the sermons. This process is based on the manual written by Charles Ridley, entitled How to select church planters: a self-study manual for recruiting, screening, interviewing and evaluating qualified church planters. Research in this project focused primarily on : (1) a careful review of the written assessment reports of more than 260 candidates; (2) administration of a written survey that was completed by the candidates which focused on the progress of their church plants; (3) a follow-up telephone survey and (4) a comparison of the results of the assessed candidates with a control group of forty planters who were not assessed but attempted to plant anyway. Ten academic disciplines are examined to see if a theological foundation can be established for these disciples from a biblical Christian perspective. Chapter 2 also establishes the need for a biblical Christian worldview and demonstrates how that worldview relates to methods of sharing the gospel. Chapter 3 provides the rationale for the methodology of the project. The goals of the project were achieved through the teaching of a Bible class at Pleasant Grove Christian Academy in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. Chapter 3 also defines the parameters of the project and defines the major terms to be used. Chapter 4 is an overview of how the project proceeded. It provides a complete description of the methodology and the reasons certain methods were used to achieve the goals of the project. Chapter 5 provides the results of the project and an evaluation of whether the goals of the project were reached.
