Chapter 1 introduces the contemporary Filipino small group, its problems, the proposed solution, and the anticipated results. Chapter 2 investigates relevant literature. Chapter 3 introduces the first century church, investigates and interprets the context of the Greco-Roman house churches, and integrates the concept of the New Testament house churches with their Greco-Roman context and the content of their practices. Chapter 4 introduces the concepts of the twenty-first century church and small group, investigates and interprets Filipino small groups, and integrates the content of New Testament church practices with contemporary small group theology. Chapter 5 presents the results on the New Testament house churches and their implications for Filipino small groups. The methods used include biblical teaching, mentoring, and small group community.  The goals of the project are presented and their use for evaluating the project set forth. Paul's Epistle to the Colossians is used as the main curriculum as viewed in light of writings in postmodernism, ecclesiology, Christology, discipleship, and leadership development.  Impementation of the project for training senior leaders and mentoring emerging leaders is surveyed and then evaluated. Phase one will consist of the establishment of a group composed of ten to twelve postmodern persons. This group will be surveyed, interviewed, and will participate in a group discussion of issues relevant to the postmodern. The project leader will facilitate these meetings over a ten-week period. This group will seek to add new members weekly through the outreach efforts of the participants. Attendance records will be maintained, and the assimilation of postmoderns into the church will be measured via the Bible study ministry of the church. In the second phase a group of twenty to twenty-five church leaders will be assimilated to help evaluate how the church is responding to the needs of postmoderns. These participants will be surveyed and interviewed and will participate in a discussion of issues identified by the postmodern participants. The knowledge of these church leaders will be measured via pre and post tests. Phase three will be implemented in the worship service through a series of sermons designed to address the needs of a postmodern generation. Participants of both groups will conduct an analysis of the worship. The purpose of this project is to develop and enhance the church's efforts to engage postmoderns and to claim the postmodern context for Jesus Christ. It is built upon a biblical framework that offers the Christian worldview as plausible and credible to the postmodern person. These leaders are confronted by two problems regarding the lack of inclusivity and sensitivity evident in their church's curriculum and training in hermeneutics, which this project will address.  The author intends to write and implement a ten-week curriculum to train African American small group leaders in hermeneutics during a discipleship course entitled, Hermeneutics for Growth Group Leaders. The project was necessary because of both space and financial restrictions.  A task group was trained with a leadership training manual written by the author.  Participants in the training program were then enlisted to lead new adult small groups.  The project resulted in the establishment of several new groups.
