Interviews with 40 parishioners help determine the structure and themes of five church hall meetings in which stories of religious experience are told by people from distinct cultural backgrounds. Intentional theological reflection should enable people to reflect on vocational call as people of God, to claim gifts for ministry in all parts of life, and to identify daily issues as ministry issues. Six sermons were preached during public worship at Zion-Memorial United Church, Carleton Place, Ontario. Fourteen participants from the congregation responded to a questionnaire.  The qualitative research method 'content analysis' was used to examine data reported by the hearers in sixty-one answers to the questionnaire.  These data tell how the hearers reacted to the sermons, and what they had to say about the message and the 'sender' of the message.
