This project consisted of a major survey of 3044 evangelical believers regarding their background and conversion, and forty-seven in-depth interviews with evangelical believers who were raised exclusively in un-churched homes. The course followed the Hook, Book, Look, and Took organizational pattern of Larry Richards. What begins as a major mission to reach the pre-Christian in a particular community will at some point begin to shift in focus. What was once directed outward has now turned inward. This process happens so gradually that the shift is not perceived by church leaders. If this inward-looking phase is allowed to continue, at some point disintegration will begin to take place. Some type of intervention needs to take place for a course correction. There needs to be a re-introduction of evangelism into the life and mission of the congregation. Few churches are seeing new converts. This stands in stark contrast to the explosive growth of the early New Testament church in the book of Acts. This paper seeks to understand what the factors were that resulted in such growth through evangelism and to discern what transferable principles may be applied in the contemporary church to promote effectiveness in evangelism. In developing a process to help churches with this transition the writer sought to adapt the principles of Policy Governance [trademark symbol]. The senior ministers of four churches that have had a governance transition by applying Policy Governance principles were interviewed and a pilot program with middle-size churches was conducted. The process included developing a manual for a training seminar and sample guiding principles for follw up consultation. This project is an attempt to develop a strategy for effective disciple-making and leadership development in a college town church that has a very high turnover rate and a big potential to reach out to scholars from China. In a six month period ideas of the proposed approach were communicated to three groups of participants in multiple sessions of the groups' regular meetings to test the new model's effectiveness. Despite remarkable numerical growth of the Brazillian evangelical church over the past twenty years, it continues to weather a sever integrity crisis. Directive Mentoring fuses the relational strength of mentoring with the learning strength of discipleship to form Christian character through encouragement, accountability and biblical praxis. Six strategic lay-leaders participated in the documented, three month pilot project. Psalms"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The content of this project revolves around a hypothesis which can only be understood in light of the trepidation that modern preachers feel in opening up to the book of Psalms and not knowing how to handle its poetry for the purpose of producing a well crafted and affectual sermon. It is my hope that through an evaluation of historical sources a preaching method will be developed which matches the Psalms as 'the history of every heart in which has burned the love of God.' This method will incorporate tools of modern exegesis and also add an emotional dimension which has remained underemphasized.
