For these gifts to be effectively utilized in service, the church itself must be structured for employing the spiritual gifts of members.  I drafted a theology of spiritual gifts and a philosophy of ministry regarding spiritual gifts.  I guided the church leadership in drafting an official church position regarding the operation of spiritual gifts within the congregation.  In addition, job descriptions were drafted.  A series of sermons was designed to assist the church in understanding spiritual gifts and discovering gifts each possessed. The purpose of this is to help lay members of the contemporary evangelical church recover a sense of 'ownership' in the Bible, thereby allowing the written word to become an effective tool in critiquing, among other things, secular tendencies among modern evangelical Christians. A written survey of other pastors was conducted.  Through this instrument I sought the experiences and suggestions of those leading similar churches in New Jersey. A twelve week curriculum utilizes parables, personalities, and the Passion Week from the Gospel of Luke.  Youth to senior citizens involve themselves in a variety of learning activities.  A training manual exists in the project for those who want to develop a curriculum and lead intergenerational sessions.  The project includes a critique of intergenerational education from theological and educational perspectives. Findings conclude that this education is a valid approach for the church. The author concluded that chemical dependence is multifactoral, thus the use of all tools, both human and divine, are necessary to constitute a comprehensive recovery program. Biblical considerations dictate a moral approach, at least in explaining the initial process of becoming an alcoholic. Medical evidence indicates strongly the accuracy of a disease model. The goals of this project are: 1) to systematize some practical, life-related biblical principles that have shaped the scriptural understanding of present church members; 2) to develop a means of introducing new members to these principles; 3) to facilitate the orientation of new members to the biblical concepts that have influenced the church family; 4) to help new members identify areas of personal need and find initial solutions, visualizing the church as a resource for growth and development; 5) to provide small group learning experiences, giving opportunity for bonding, security, and friendship.  The validation of the project is supported by both theology and survey resources. Findings include information on who these people are, how they viewed their pastoral work while in it, the pressures and processes of leaving it, and how they experience life with the pastorate in their past and a new career before them.  The survey shows that, according to overall mean and rank, the primary stress in ministry and, according to higher values only, the major reason for the respondents leaving the pastorate is church conflict. The ex-pastor experienced role conflict and, while his exodus was multi-determined, he sought for consistency between his individual values and his occupation.
