The author examines the task of application from a historical, theological, and theoretical standpoint.  The focus of the study is twenty-four pastors from the Evangelical Free Church of America.  The author uses a content analysis approach to study the unique methods of application used by John Broadus, G Campbell Morgan, D Martyn Lloyd-Jones, and Charles Swindoll. Twelve methods of application are isolated from these four homileticians to develop a Methods of Application Self-Reporting Inventory. The 119 students listen to introductory lectures and engage in individual study. They then are divided into eighteen groups.  Each group is assigned a paragraph and writes a commentary on their section.  The results of the project suggest that writing a biblical commentary can be a useful endeavor for high school students. Research into the current literature on marriage, an interview with a clinical psychologist, and questionnaires indicate that communication and conflict resolution skills are vital for good marriages.  Exercises are assigned to the couples during the seminar to put these skills into practice. The major biblical concepts of marriage and sexuality are presented. Each of these groups implemented one or more church growth programs during this ten-year period. The study of these groups showed strengths and weaknesses which are reflected in the projected four-year plan of church growth for the Free Methodists. Part I covers the development of Christianity in the Philippines beginning with the Spanish entrance in 1517 and continuing through World War II; part II gives an in-depth study of the development of the Free Methodist Church in the Philippines; part III studied the individual church growth programs of other related denominations; and part IV compares the different strategies and assimilates their strengths into a workable program of church growth for the Free Methodist Church in the Philippines. The manual which was developed for this purpose was tested at the Salvation Army School for Officers' Training in Chicago, Illinois.  The manual was divided into three sections: 1. development of interpersonal relations; 2. a theological perspective of personality development; and 3. sources for dealing with behavioral difficulties.  The participants consisted of a group of thirteen students who had completed the prerequisite course in Introduction to Psychology and were in their final year of training.  They completed two examinations and several evaluation forms that provided data for the write-up of the project.  Other participants included five outside readers who made observations of the manual from the perspective of their particular expertise. Ths information was gained through a written survey of those missionaries who had completed the Assemblies of God Graduate School (AGGS) pre-field training program.  The results of the survey showed a strongly favorable response to the AGGS pre-field training program, with those aspects dealing with cross-cultural communication and cultural adjustment rating the highest.  Language learning was of greatest concern. The principles of andragogy employed in a non-formal setting were found to be the most effective.  Training for cross-cultural service required a heavy emphasis on the development of interpersonal skills.
