They participated in the 4-month course and provided valuable feedback to improve the content, format, and delivery of the course so it would be useful to other pastors. The participants' management capabilities were appraised throughout the course. After the course, the assessment indicated an upward trajectory in their management skills. The participants engaged in practical service for a period of six months. The goal was to discover any change in how they applied their understanding of their calling through service opportunities. One of the lessons that emerged is that the church needs to be nurtured by missional habits. This thesis reports the findings from a six-month training course delivered to a group of actively serving chairpersons in the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada. The thesis project was designed utilizing the concepts of action research. Chair participants and two board governance experts evaluated the effectiveness of course. Board members from the participant's congregation assessed the impact of the course on the Chair's confidence and performance. As the research subject, I then applied these identified practices to my itinerant ministry. As a faculty member of this college, the purpose of this study was to develop my understanding of holistic education, working in collaboration with faculty and students at Providence University College and faculty at a select group of sister schools outside of Providence. This study involved interviewing sixteen Christian higher education faculty members and conducting seven focus groups involving the student leadership and faculty of Providence University College and Seminary. To address a perceived weakness, a project was developed using appreciative inquiry and focused sermons to move congregants to develop friendships with non-Christian neighbours. Reported responses included a need for heightened awareness to engage the unchurched, to practice a higher level of acceptance and hospitality, to have greater intensity in serving the community, to provide relevant programming and to communicate the need to practice self-awareness when ministering to the unchurched. Consequentially, many Christians do not demonstrate Beatitudinal Character, the attributes of Matthew 5:3-10. Using Action Research, 11 drop-in centre volunteers, over 3 sites, were interviewed and surveyed. The study was an action research using a qualitative phenomenological approach. A reflective program, named 'Uncommon-8-weeks' was designed and introduced to the congregants to practice reflection on eight sermons preached for eight consecutive weeks. Research result identified seven aspects of post-preaching reflection: remembering, considering, connecting, self-examining, desiring, planning, and acting. Result indicated that reflection functions as a hyphen linking preached sermon to congregants as they desire to learn and apply
