The context is an urban ministry agency of the United Methodist Church working among the urban poor in charleston, west virginia. The most frequent model for 'mission' contact with the local church is interpretation, not prophecy. The prevailing expectation for a missionary is that he or she interpret their work to the local church, not raise prophetic words concerning it. My program found viable ways in which the biblical-theological understanding can be focused in local churches to use their resources. It communicates understandings, awakens consciences, and prompts new directions whisle using the history and stories of local churches. It seeks prophetic faithfulness and humility but tries to avoid prophetic arrogance and judgment by remaining in tune with the biblical prophets but not simply to seek a prophetic way by which the local church may change."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["United Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f0f9c284-37b6-440c-96ab-39e6509e82ee"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128533716697088,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:01:19.988Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:16:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:12:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a3ff7d2d-7e88-40f0-a52e-466433163ec6","accessControl_ssim":["bba4ac06-f487-4769-b8e7-1d6b018dee4d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The sounding board: a model for pastoral supervision in the church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:16:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:54:06Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f4afd01f-66de-4b61-b8ec-90604f71d603"],"hasLease_ssim":["e7ed1410-56a7-411a-821d-d23db1ef2862"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Edwin Burtner"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lowell W Scheufler"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Pastoral psychology--Study and teaching","Laity","Hebrew language--Terms--Ḥesed","Leadership--Religious aspects","Church work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The objective in the project was to help laity in a local church define their mission, given their situation, and to equip them for leadership. The development consisted first in researching existing programs of clergy evaluation in the United States both Roman Catholic and Protestant. Secondly, the project involved psychological preparation of priests for the possibility of ministerial performance evaluation. Priests were personally interviewed in a stratified, random sampling. They also did a time-study or functions survey as to how they spend their time in ministry. Three kinds of instruments for evaluation were designed: self evaluation, peer evaluation, and lay evaluation. The process for evaluation includes the assistance of a third party, priest confidant who gathers and interprets all of the responses. The program was adopted by the Diocese of Cleveland. Other dioceses and denominations might also benefit from it."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["United Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f0f9c284-37b6-440c-96ab-39e6509e82ee"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128321310851072,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:57:57.422Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:14:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:52:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3563fbb2-04c3-420c-ba5a-2b98b7157b4e","accessControl_ssim":["dd6470d9-220a-4b22-80d0-418b995a7db9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The congregation in crisis: a contextual approach to managing conflict between neo-Pentecostal authoritarianism and Lutheranism"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:14:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:40:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["18103971-0214-432d-9222-52c72eec3035"],"hasLease_ssim":["70db0519-083d-482e-b780-86f7252a5927"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John K Luoma"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John E Northcott"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy","Social conflict","Lutheran Church","Authoritarianism","Pentecostalism--Lutheran Church","Church work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This writer's program thesis puts forth the proposition that unresolved conflict between a controlled and an enabled concept of Christianity as precipitated by the encounter between negative pseudo neo-Pentecostal authoritarianism and traditional Lutheran patterns of ministry and church life can be resolved and managed successfully within the contextual setting. There is now a computer lab servicing the community with printers, fax and performance oriented training."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["United Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f0f9c284-37b6-440c-96ab-39e6509e82ee"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127410949750784,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:43:29.234Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:58:01Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:20:31Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d194a628-91fe-44bd-8f3e-f9b1a3fcf03c","accessControl_ssim":["90e43b52-9f3b-4c05-8a87-5a87666abdf1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Stewardship in a connectional African American church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:58:00Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:07:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d625723c-c722-4d1c-9392-9b8e21956dc8"],"hasLease_ssim":["1c92d181-91d6-4aaf-9788-836a567aa515"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["W Franklyn Richardson","Wyatt Tee Walker"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Tony C Henderson"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["St John Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (Detroit)","Christian stewardship"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The focus of this ministry project was the transformation of the stewardship system of St John Christian Methodist Episcopal Church of Detroit, Michigan.
