Consequently, we should develop ways of worshipping that will meet the needs of those who attend yet stimulate the uninvolved and turned-off persons of the community. The literature of worship, past and present, was studied, along with the worship of various congregations. At the same time, members of our worship commissions were encouraged to read books on worship and to ask questions where they were unclear about why we worship as we do. Worship can be enriched, but this involves change which may be resisted. Our approach has been for the pastor and worship commissions to work together as they looked at our worship and decided upon ways it might be enriched and improved. If general agreement was not reached, changes were not made. After a good many changes had been made, we prepared a questionnaire to obtain congregational reaction to them and to help us plan future actions. This type of an approach should make it easier for newly-appointed pastors to effect change, as well as those who have been serving a church for several years."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721004254101504,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:14:58.453Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:46:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:40:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4ce9ebb4-bc95-4cdf-ba6e-82c3e18b52fa","accessControl_ssim":["30d20866-ebd2-42ea-8619-6507bbc50f8f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The scourged Christ of Haiti: politics, economics, and the church in the island republic"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:46:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:23:42Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["21d2221b-4065-4cba-a160-f179983562e4"],"hasLease_ssim":["846c2d9f-3722-467c-9ec9-30a986678b53"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John D Godsey"],"year_tesim":["1985"],"location_tesim":["Haiti"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Although there is an emphatic picture of the 'net' and 'pits' of sin, there also is a stronger message of salvation (wholeness). The lament psalms are most effective in providing expressions of hopelessness, anger, fear, guilt, and hope within the context of faith. Their concept of wholeness is substantiated by contemporary scientific research. The church needs to take its part in this emerging discovery of its own ancient world. It further provides a synopsis of the evolution of the lay speaking program in general and in the Baltimore North District in particular. The first chapter concludes with the principles of religious education undergirding the newly-designed lay speaking classes. Those courses are described in chapters II and III. There is a need to hold these various component parts together instead of choosing one or the other as real or ultimate. The holding together of these different spheres can be accomplished within a tension. The development of a construct, diagram, or visual interpretation of this process presents an opportunity to explore the symbols of our church and the traditional Christian approaches to life's issues. The process of exploration is far more important than the finished construct, for the construct is only a tool to enable and enhance theological reflection and formation within a parish. This project-thesis follows the history and development of one construct with reference to historical and possible future approaches to the tendency to divide our world into managable segments and lose sight of the unity of all of God's creation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720074971447296,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:00:12.221Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
