Questionnaires were filled out by 59 pastors and 623 lay persons in attendance at charge conferences on the Baltimore Southwest District of the Baltimore Conference of the United Methodist Church. Respondents were given an opportunity to indicate their expectations of a church 'in mission' and to evaluate the performance level of their congregations. The total life of the church was covered: spiritual growth, evangelistic thrust, care for individuals, outreach and service, stewardship, recruitment and training of workers, goal setting and the functioning of the Council on Ministries.
