Method: from the fields of suicidology, death and dying, theology, and pastoral care, the author presents characteristics of adolescent suicidal behaviour, explores despair and hope, applies these understandings to the process of healing, and compares the research to informed responses from United Church of Christ pastors. The STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) Program was used to raise the awareness and competence level of teenage mothers on parenting.  The church provided training, teachers, and the space for classes.  The community provided services to the teen mothers through the schools, government agencies, and the court systems.
