By utilizing research and statistics, the writer sought to determine what the African American houses of worship are doing or not doing and what is needed going forward to help eradicate HIV/AIDS. What the writer discovered as a result of research, interviews, and workshops was that some of the clergy in the city and across the state of New Jersey were willing to start an HIV/AIDS ministry in their churches. The writer also documented the fact that there were those among the clergy willing to have someone come to their church once a quarter to speak on HIV/AIDS. Others were willing to put HIV/AIDS facts in their Sunday morning bulletins... Other pastors committed to providing pastoral care and counseling to those who were infected and affected. Some were willing to preach sermons on HIV/AIDS, place HIV/AIDS material in their houses of worship, and to have condom demonstration sessions set up for both males and females as part of the New Jersey Human Development Corporation's objective of education and prevention."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716708058923008,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:06:41.283Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:50:04Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:27:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c70cfa12-b350-477a-b875-7f8370f84e25","accessControl_ssim":["f42197da-31fa-44d5-a1af-ab30fe2e1e0b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["What God has called me to do? help to set my people free"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:49:57Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:50:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2f5bce89-bc36-4f14-8b75-49daffe6d4c5"],"hasLease_ssim":["1c200f48-5a4c-4e9d-99f8-47b5dcbd0990"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James M Shopshire"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Personal testimonies realistically depict our everyday life and are at the core of who we are as Christians. In sharing our testimony of what God has done for us in a corporate worship service, we create the space for authentic God-talk to take place among Christians. The basic hypothesis is that since the advent of the megachurch, the small Black churches have followed the trend and exchanged the mid-week testimony and Bible study service for the 'pastor's Bible study.' In losing the testimony service, members lost the vehicle to share their stories and experiences of the Holy Spirit and how they have overcome in difficult situations. The author conducted seven weeks of workshops to educate members on testimony, narrative theology and hospitality, scheduled a week for members to share personal testimonies and listen as an act of love, and administered pre-surveys and post-surveys."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720526140145664,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:07:22.489Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:12:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:05:20Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b0ddcf8d-b17f-468a-b1b2-6e08817b8f12","accessControl_ssim":["a35b5733-eeb2-49ac-953b-6e83b9bed9ea"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An investigation into the funding of African-American church plants in the South Carolina Southern Baptist Convention"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:12:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:14:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ddbc53f3-62e1-4f83-bfb1-cec62c832406"],"hasLease_ssim":["bf21edea-c905-40a9-82c4-d5bae80a49d9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions"],"advisor_tesim":["John D Harvey"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Andre Maurice Rogers"],"keyword_tesim":["Relation (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions"],"subject_tesim":["South Carolina Baptist Convention","Race relations","African American churches","Southern Baptist Convention","Finance","Baptists","Church development, New","Church finance"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation's focus explores the funding of African-American church plants within the South Carolina Southern Baptist Convention. The primary research question is, 'How does external SCSBC funding affect the success and health of African-American church plants?' The research was grounded on work done in fields of study related to the subjects of church planting, church health, and church funding. The scope of this research was limited to the African-American church plants of the SCSBC in the last decade. The principal beneficiaries of this work are church planters who are either initiating their first work or are experienced and planting again."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128789193850880,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:05:23.630Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:08:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:31:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"96246ee1-925f-4d73-b138-0f5702db89a8","accessControl_ssim":["fdde2797-5969-4c32-8ca8-3b6a35a52b80"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The language dilemma of African immigrant congregations: politics in the vernacular"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:08:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:31:35Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["429ffea4-39ce-4dd4-aebf-8e8ddca48b18"],"hasLease_ssim":["0ba0025d-75a9-4ecf-9c8b-ee70b76cc1e9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"advisor_tesim":["Herbert V Klem"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"location_tesim":["Ethiopia","United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robéra D Battal"],"keyword_tesim":["Relation (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"subject_tesim":["Persecution","Language question in the church","African American churches","Church and state","Oromo (African people)","African American Lutherans","Ethiopians","Protestant churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author researched the tension between the first and second generation African immigrants over the use of vernacular in worship.
